Chemical Name: FLUOROURACIL (flure-oh-YOOR-a-sill)
Common uses
This medicine is an antimetabolite used to treat actinic (solar) keratoses,
which is a skin growth caused by exposure to sunlight. It may also be used
for other conditions as determined by your doctor.
Before using
INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter
medicine that you are taking. Inform your doctor of any other medical
conditions, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. USE OF THIS MEDICINE
IS NOT RECOMMENDED if you have a certain metabolic disorder (dihydropyrimidine
dehydrogenase (DPD) deficiency). Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you
have any questions or concerns about using this medicine.
Directions
Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor.
APPLY ENOUGH OF THIS MEDICINE to cover the affected area. DO NOT BANDAGE
OR WRAP the affected area, unless directed otherwise by your doctor. Wash
your hands immediately after applying this medicine, unless they are part
of the treated area. Rubber gloves may be used when you apply this
medicine. DO NOT APPLY this medicine to the eyelids, directly into the
eye, or on the inside of your nose or mouth. If this medicine gets in your
eyes, flush your eyes with lots of water and contact your doctor. STORE
THIS MEDICINE at room temperature, away from heat and light. Keep the
container tightly closed. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF THIS MEDICINE, use it as
soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed
dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. If you miss more than 1
dose of your medicine, contact your doctor.
Cautions
THIS MEDICINE MAY CAUSE increased sensitivity to the sun. Avoid exposure
to the sun, sunlamps, or tanning beds. DO NOT USE THIS MEDICINE for future
skin problems without first checking with your doctor. DO NOT USE OTHER
TOPICAL MEDICINES or skin products without first checking with your
doctor. THE TREATED AREAS may be unattractive during therapy and for
several weeks after treatment has stopped. FOR WOMEN: DO NOT USE THIS
MEDICINE if you are pregnant. IF YOU SUSPECT THAT YOU COULD BE PREGNANT
contact your doctor immediately. IT IS UNKNOWN IF THIS MEDICINE IS
EXCRETED in breast milk. DO NOT BREAST-FEED while using this medicine.
Possible side effects
SIDE EFFECTS include reddening, itching, burning, pain or soreness,
tenderness, scaling, or swelling. Check with your doctor if these side
effects are severe. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience
abdominal pain, bloody diarrhea, vomiting, or chills. If you notice other
effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist.

DO NOT SHARE THIS MEDICINE with others for whom it was not prescribed. DO
NOT USE THIS MEDICINE for other health conditions. KEEP THIS MEDICINE out
of the reach of children. IF USING THIS MEDICINE FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF
TIME, obtain refills before your supply runs out.
