Generic Name: E: DISULFIRAM (dye-SUL-fi-ram)   Etabus

Common Uses: This medicine is an alcohol-abuse deterrent used to help overcome drinking problems.

How to use this Medicine: Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. DO NOT TAKE THE FIRST DOSE OF THIS MEDICINE for at least 12 hours after drinking alcohol. STORE THIS MEDICINE at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C) in a tightly-closed container, away from heat and light. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF THIS MEDICINE, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.

Cautions: AVOID ALL ALCOHOL INCLUDING alcohol found in sauces, vinegar, mouthwash, liquid medicines, lotions, after shave, or backrub products. A REACTION TO ALCOHOL may cause flushing, nausea, thirst, abdominal pain, chest pain, dizziness, vomiting, fast breathing, fast heartbeat, fainting, difficult breathing, or confusion. USE CAUTION when using topical products containing alcohol, such as cologne or perfume. Before using alcohol-containing products on the skin, test the product by applying some to a small area of the skin. If no redness, itching, headache, or nausea occur after 1 to 2 hours, you should be able to use the product. FOR 2 WEEKS AFTER YOUR LAST DOSE OF THIS MEDICINE, you may have a reaction if you drink alcohol or use a product that contains alcohol. CARRY IDENTIFICATION that states you are taking this medicine. THIS MEDICINE MAY CAUSE drowsiness or dizziness. Do not drive, operate machinery, or do anything else that could be dangerous until you know how you react to this medicine. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. BEFORE YOU HAVE ANY MEDICAL OR DENTAL TREATMENTS OR SURGERY, tell the doctor or dentist that you are taking this medicine.

Possible Side Effects: SIDE EFFECTS, that may go away during treatment, include mild drowsiness, headache, or a metallic or garlic-like taste in the mouth. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE if you experience numbness or tingling of arms or legs, blurred vision, or changes in color vision. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist.
